Indulgences - Treasury of the Church

The Third General Grant

“A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful, who in a spirit of penance voluntarily deprive themselves of what is licit and pleasing to them.” – Enchiridion of Indulgences, II, (1999)

  • The universal conditions to receive an indulgence must also be fulfilled
  • This is to incentivise the faithful to bridle their passions in penitential fasting and abstinence united in charity.
